Microsoft latest virtualisation software that was released in October last year has already taken 24% of market share away from VMWare. This is a massive gain for a version 1 product and I say is going to keep increasing with the release of Hyper-V R2. With High Availability and Live Migration all included with Hyper-V R2 free out of the box I think VMWare is going to need to do some serious changes to the pricing of their products. VMware’s vSphere product for 5 node 4 socket servers for $44,900 where Hyper-V R2 is Free, now that’s a big reason to change you virtualisation platform.
