Why Windows 7 and SSD will rock

Here is a really good article as to why Windows 7 when combined with a SSD will make a fantastic combination. I think we will be seeing a lot more SSD computer in the future for the System Partition and then having really big HDD for data drives. When combined with the libraries functions that show consolidated views of multiple folders into one view this sort of setup will be very easy to use.

Some points from the article as to how Windows 7 takes advantage SSD are:

  • Disable disk defragmentation on SSD system drives.
  • Disable Superfetch, ReadyBoost, as well as boot and application launch prefetching on SSDs
  • Since SSDs tend to perform at their best when the operating system’s partitions are created with the SSD’s alignment needs in mind, all of the partition-creating tools in Windows 7 place newly created partitions with the appropriate alignment.
